Three New Directors Elected to Board

The Carolina Crown Board of Directors recently elected three new members. Please join us in welcoming Kerry McIver Cordan, Lori Ann Vinson Summers and Lorri Shealy Unumb to TeamCROWN! These remarkable candidates bring a wealth of experience in non-profit and organization management.

Completing their terms on the Board were Bob Beasley and Toby Cummings, who have helped the organization’s development in finance, governance, marketing and so much more. We thank them for their service through the years!

Kerry McIver Cordan, PhD, is a Program Officer for South Carolina First Steps, a comprehensive early childhood initiative focused on getting children ready for school and life success. She also serves as a research consultant for the Department of Exercise Science in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. Kerry is originally from North Carolina, having received degrees in Exercise Physiology from East Carolina University and her doctorate in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina. Kerry is a proud alumnae of Carolina Crown, having marched in 1995 and 1996 as a member of the Color Guard. She lives in Columbia, SC with her husband, son, and Labrador pup.


Lori Ann Vinson Summers has been working in the field of Institutional Advancement for over 25 years. Lori Ann started her career in 1992 as the Director of Sports Information for Special Olympics. In 1996, she became the Marketing and Promotions Manager for Women's Athletics at the University of Minnesota. In 2001, she took on the role of Director of Annual Giving at Colorado College. From 2008 to 2012, she worked as the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Affairs at Auburn University before returning to her alma mater in Columbia, SC. She served theUniversity of South Carolina as a Senior Director of Development and Assistant Vice President. In her current position as Vice President for University Advancement at Queens University of Charlotte, Lori Ann is responsible for the execution, management, and oversight of fundraising priorities for the entire university.

Lori Ann has a Doctor of Education from North Greenville University, a Master of Education in Higher Education Business Administration from the University of South Carolina‐Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Lori Ann currently lives in Charlotte with her wife, Ashley, and two dogs, Biscuit and Gracie.


Lorri Shealy Unumb is a lawyer, mother of three teenage/adult boys, and an internationally renowned autism advocate. She began her career as an appellate attorney with the United States Department of Justice and then as a full‐time law professor. Following her son’s diagnosis with autism, she began volunteering for autism causes, writing ground‐breaking autism insurance legislation for South Carolina (“Ryan’s Law”) that passed in 2007 and served as the catalyst for the national autism insurance movement. She served for a decade as the national head of government affairs for Autism Speaks. Lorri is also the founder of the annual Autism Law Summit, now in its 18th year, and is author of the law school textbook “Autism and the Law.” In 2010, she founded the Autism Academy of South Carolina, a nonprofit ABA center now known as The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment. Lorri currently serves as CEO of an international nonprofit trade association, the Council of Autism Service Providers.
