What I love most about DCI Finals night is the increased energy. There are longer lines of fans at booths purchasing just one more favorite souvenir, squeezing into overflowing stands, deafening ovations, and, of course, performances that are cranked up a few notches from the night before. The experience is what Steve Rondinaro often describes as “electric.”

Crown Relentless Show Takes Center Stage One Last Time
As I watched the prelims and semifinals at Lucas Oil Stadium, it occurred to me that the corps were more or less grouped in threes, especially among the top twelve. To be sure, there were remarkable performances by every corps, and it was clearly evident that the long season of rehearsals and performances were blossoming. But listening to how the crowd responded, and looking at the scores, there were clusters of similar performances in groups of three.

CrownBOOSTER Campaign Kicks Off
The fuel that energizes the 150 Crown members' Relentless Pursuit of Perfection is the 6,000-8,000 calories they burn through each and every day while on tour.
As you can imagine, those calories don't come for free. It costs over $1,200 each day to feed the corps four square meals. From breakfast in the morning, to lunch, to pre-show dinner and after-show snack, the corps consumes huge amounts of high quality meats, poultry, vegetables and fruits along with milk, eggs, cheese and bread.

Evan Vandoren Talks Crown
Many of you have heard the name Donnie VanDoren: DCI Hall of Fame member and longtime brass instructor for corps such as the Crossmen, Garfield Cadets, Star of Indiana and more. Over his career, Donnie has influenced a tremendous number of instructors, including Crown’s very own brass caption supervisor, Matt Harloff, and his team. But Donnie influenced a person with a far more personal connection--his son, Evan. Evan was a trumpet player and drum major with Crown from 2004 through 2008. And after five years working with the Madison Scouts, Evan returns home again to the corps he cut his teeth with. We caught up with Evan this spring at one of the first camps of the season. We talked with him about his return to Crown, what he’s been up to, and his relationship with his father.
