Award Winning Visual Team Returns for Sixth Season with Crown
Carolina Crown is excited to announce the return of Visual Caption Supervisor, Ron Hardin, and his team for their sixth season. Ron will be partnering with Visual Designer, Jeff Sacktig, and Artistic Coordinator, Rick Subel, for the first time at Crown.
An alumnus of Star of Indiana, Ron marched with Crown Brass leaders Matt Harloff, Matt's brother Ben, and Ray Linkous. He also marched with other members who went on to become part of his visual team that came with him to Crown in 2012.
“Five of us marched together at Star,” Ron said. “It was me, Brian Soules, Brian Kraft, Chris Considine and Tim Handley. Every one of these guys could be a caption head, but they worked with me at the Bluecoats and then we all came to Crown together as a team.”
Ron and his team, along with the Harloff brothers and Ray Linkous, all learned many of their instructional philosophies from Star of Indiana Brass Caption Head and DCI Hall of Famer, Donnie VanDoren. Coming together again to teach Crown in 2012 helped to generate tremendous success.
“Any success we’ve had has been the result of us 'marrying' our visual program to the brass and percussion technique programs. We largely speak the same language, and fully coordinate how we do what we do with how the brass and percussion staffs teach and communicate with the members. Having a like-minded approach has made all the difference.”
This like-minded approach has enabled Ron and his team to lead Crown to three John Brazale Awards for Best Visual Performance.
